As part of the newly funded ARC Discovery project Spatial intervention: An enduring model to build mathematics achievement, the Faculty of Education at the University of Canberra is providing a scholarship for a motivated PhD candidate to join the SERC team.
The research topic of the PhD project will fall broadly within the field of spatial reasoning within the context of mathematics. As part of SERC’s multidisciplinary approach, this position would suit potential students from education, development, cognition, and/or technology fields. Projects using qualitative, quantitative or mixed methods, as well as multidisciplinary projects are welcome. Potential primary supervisors are Dr Tracy Logan, Associate Professor Ilyse Resnick, Dr Sitti Patahuddin, and Professor Tom Lowrie, with the option of co-supervision from a range of SERC and cross-disciplinary experts.
Location: STEM Education Research Centre, University of Canberra
Scholarship Start: flexible (Semester Two 2023 or Semester One 2024 – current Honours or Masters by Research students are encouraged to apply)
Scholarship duration: Three years
Stipend rate: $28,870 per year (tax-free) with the option of supplementary paid research assistant work.
Eligibility: Domestic candidates (Australian or New Zealand citizens or an Australian permanent resident in Australia) holding a Bachelor degree with First Class Honours or Masters Degree with minimum 25% research component (or regarded by the University as having an equivalent level of attainment).
