Parents’ FAQ

What can I expect at my session?

Most sessions at the SPLAT Lab last around an hour. You will be able to watch and hear your child at all times.

Here is what you can expect at your SPLAT Lab session.

Upon arrival

When you arrive, our researchers will explain the study to you, provide you with information and consent forms, and answer any questions that you may have. During this time, your child may like to play and explore our lab’s collection of toys and books.

The study

Only once you and your child are comfortable with our space and staff, will we begin the study.

Studies are brief and fun! Common activities your child may be asked to engage in include the following:

  • Reading a book
  • Playing with blocks
  • Playing a game with a researcher
  • Playing a game on the computer

After the study

Once the study is finished, your child will be able to pick a small prize to take home as a special thank you from us!

Can I bring my other children with me?

Sure! We have plenty of toys, books and space to entertain siblings while children participate in studies. We just kindly ask that you let us know when making your booking if you plan to bring your other children along.

What are the SPLAT Lab’s hours?

The SPLAT Lab is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, by appointment. We schedule appointments at various times throughout the week to suit your needs.
